Bridal Gowns for a Cause

Are you looking for the perfect bridal gown and want to help those who suffer from Breast Cancer.  Here is your chance. The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will present its final Designer Bridal Gown Sale on Saturday March 22 beginning at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Delaware State Fair Grounds in Harrington.

You can’t miss this one day sale.  Gowns are priced at $50 and proceeds will benefit DBCC's programs and services in Delaware.

At this one day sale you will find designer gowns by Vera Wang, Priscilla of Boston, Oleg Cassini, Maggie Sottero and more. Some of the gowns are valued at $8,000! These will be sold at a fraction of the cost.

Over 500 gowns have been donated for sale from sizes 2 to 32 from manufacturers, bridal shops and brides.

This sale will be used to expand DBCC’s programs in Delaware and the surrounding communities to increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, and provide access to mammograms and support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

These programs include DBCC’s Peer Mentoring Programs, Survivorship programs; Beginning Your Journey, Nurture Your Self, Nurture with Nature, Survivor Socials; and the Mobile Mammography Van.

Learn to Sew

Have you always wanted to sew but didn't know where to start? Julie Lange, designer and blogger is starting up classes  at the Maine Line School  at Lower Merion High School  on March 18 through April 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 . Prom Glamour on a shoestring

Are you thinking about the prom or even a black tie affair where you need a formal dress? As you wonder into different boutiques looking at prom or ball gowns are you in sticker price shock? Gowns can cost hundreds of dollars.  Well the Fairy Godmothers Inc. are here to help you realize your dreams for that special night without putting out money that could go towards college
On March 8, 15 and 23 you can find the gown of your dreams for $10  with accessories costing $2 to $8 dollars.  Some ballroom gowns (pagent type gowns) are $50.  Simple alterations are $5. Hours On March 8th  and March 15th  are from  10 a.m. to  4:30 p.m; March 23rd hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Now this may mean a bit of travel to Cheltenham Mall at. 2385 W. Chelenham Ave. in Philadelphia but the deals are too good to pass up.

Every student must have a valid photo student ID. Cyber school students who do not have a valid school ID must bring a copy of their most recent report card.

Fairy Godmothers Inc. was started by Joyce Jesko, a Philly native who graduated from Little Flower in 1971.  Joyce created this foundation to help young high school girls  attend their proms.She knew how expensive this can be for teens and found a way to help out.  Fairy God Mothers, Inc. has five chapters in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Arizona, New York, Virginia and Florida.

If you have gowns to donate here is the criteria they must meet!

• Gowns can be new or gently used
• Long and short gowns are accepted. Plus sizes too.
• All jewelry and make-up must be new
• They don't take shoes and handbags. 
• Donations are accepted during the months of October through March.  So you still have a few more days left.

All donations are tax deductible.

The blast of color makes for happy feet

I know we are all sick of that white fluffy stuff that just seems to keep coming down making it impossible to run around the track or walk around the neighborhood.  Walking and running shoes will make you smile and forget the winter for a moment.
Are you looking for something bright, cheery and colorful?  Winter sports are upon us and I am not talking about the Olympics. I am talking about those games played on the courts or on the mats. Look at the feet please. 

Gone are the days of white and black high tops with the colors of the schools intertwined. On the courts or the mats you can see the rainbow colors of happy feet run from basket to basket.

Those prism of colors and fluorescent shoes will be on the soccer fields and baseball fields this spring and summer. So here’s a look at what’s styling this season. From six to eighty the more color the better.  After all the polar white snow on the ground this trend is a breath of spring during this long winter.

Vow this New Year to love yourself

Ah 2014! It’s a brand new year. It’s time to start anew with resolutions to look better, feel better and change what you don’t like. 

STOP!!! 

Take a deep breath.
 Get out a piece of paper and list what you do like? What are your best features? What are your favorite things in your closet? What is constantly bringing you down when you pull it out and try it on.
Spend a few hours going through and ditch all those items that have someday written on them and live in the present.  I know how difficult it is I have a lot of clothes that say someday when I lose ten pounds or someday when I get the right color shirt for that outfit I will wear it and look fabulous. 
The sad thing is I’ve wasted a lot of some days which turned into years. I have a lot of clothes I never took back trying to have the perfect body to squeeze into those way too skinny jeans. 
So the most important thing about Styling is to love yourself first, love your body and don’t be intimidated!

Now is the time! Dress to highlight your assets instead of always comparing yourself to skinny magazine models, an unachievable goal for most of us. Who wants to be that skinny anyway? I am a foodie and I love it! Bones are not attractive.

Here are some pointers from Stylist Stacy London from a recent article in Shape Magazine whose mantra is dress your best today and every day.  Dress as if you have the body you long for.

• Get rid of the baggy sweatpants.
• Make fashion part of your journey not the final destination.
•  Looking good is feeling good!

Some picks that make that journey easier include wrap dresses to cover and hide flaws, high-heeled colored pumps that add a little height, a statement necklace that draws attention to your face not your body, a great cashmere sweater that won’t add bulk but will gently caress your curves and boyfriend jeans that are relaxed and fit across your hips and thighs. Team them up with a tailored top and you are Styling in Delco!

Styling at home for the holidays!

                              Ready for the Holidays? Ready to Shimmer and Shine?
But what if you decide to stay home with your family and not venture to grand mom’s house. Well you still need to look good because the video camera is running and of course there are all those selfies. Smile or not somewhere you will appear on social media.

Looking good in a red sparkling nightie or some great silk pajamas wearing feathered mules speaks volumes of style as you open up all those Christmas presents under the tree.

As the day wears on and you want to be ready for guests but still oh so comfy and warm. Sweaters will get you through. Cowl neck sweaters are all the rage but nothing beats the tried and true cashmere crew neck or a great cardigan with a little sparkle.

Wear a great pair of jeans, colored, black or patterned.This will take you notches above sweatpants. You are looking good whether company arrives or just lounging around. No embarrassment now when those cell phone pictures take to the Facebook.

Turtle Fur another way to beat the cold

Yes, there are texting gloves but hey I just wanted to share with you the coolest gloves I found this year. Made in Nepal hand woven by knitters they are fingerless and beautifully made. Inside they are lined. The Brand name is Turtle Fur, a company in Vermont founded 30 years ago at the base of Mount Mansfield. This company grew out of an idea to keep you warm and comfy. I hate the idea of winter but if winter has to come so be it. These gloves are a perk.
